Created over 50 million years ago during the Earth’s Cretaceous period, Septarian nodules began as sediment formed by ancient volcanic activity beneath the sea. Over time, marine life and minerals settled together, eventually drying and cracking as oceans receded. These natural fractures filled with crystallized aragonite and drusy calcite, creating the dramatic internal patterns visible today.
