John Urbain (1920 to 2009) was born in Belgium but emigrated to the US in 1922. In the 1940s, Urbain studied under Josef Albers and other significant masters at Black Mountain College. During his lifetime, Urbain enjoyed steady gallery representation in New York and, posthumously, his art is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Brooklyn Museum, and other major museums.
